Community engagement

How we engage with our community

Selwyn Water is committed to open, transparent, and meaningful engagement with our communities.

As a newly established, publicly owned organisation, our approach to engagement will continue to develop and strengthen as we mature.

We recognise that trust is built through clear communication, listening carefully, and involving people in decisions that affect their water services. Over time, we will continue to refine how we share information, seek feedback, and work with our communities, mana whenua, and stakeholders.

Our aim is to provide clear, timely information about drinking water and wastewater services. We’re currently finalising our Significance and Engagement Policy, which sets out how and when we involve our communities in decision‑making, from sharing information about day‑to‑day activities to consulting or working more closely with communities on more significant decisions.

As we grow, community feedback will increasingly inform our planning, priorities, and decision‑making. Where engagement occurs, we aim to report back on what we heard and how it shaped outcomes.

Our approach will continue to evolve as we become more established as an organisation, ensuring water services continue to meet the needs of Selwyn now and into the future.
