Selwyn District Council approves Selwyn Water's Significance and Engagement Policy
On 24 June 2026, our shareholder, Selwyn District Council, approved Selwyn Water's Significance and Engagement Policy.

Our engagement process
Selwyn Water is responsible for delivering drinking water and wastewater services across the Selwyn district. As part of this role, we make decisions on behalf of our communities.
Under the Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025, Selwyn Water is required to have a Significance and Engagement Policy. This policy explains when, how and why we involve our communities in our decision‑making.
What the policy does
- The draft Significance and Engagement Policy sets out:
- How we decide whether a decision is significant
- When we will engage with the community
- How engagement will be carried out
- How we work with mana whenua and with Selwyn District Council as our shareholder
Engagement outcomes and next steps
Community engagement on the draft policy ran from 23 March to 16 April 2026. We heard from residents about whether the policy was clear and what changes they felt should be made.

We reviewed the feedback received and considered changes to the draft policy.
The final draft policy and community feedback report were then submitted to our shareholder for final consideration and approval.
