Significance and Engagement Policy | Selwyn Water 2026

Significance and Engagement Policy

This engagement has now closed.

We invited residents to help shape how Selwyn Water engages with the community

Selwyn Water is responsible for delivering drinking water and wastewater services across the Selwyn district. As part of this role, we make decisions on behalf of our communities.

Under the Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025, Selwyn Water is required to have a Significance and Engagement Policy. This policy explains when, how and why we involve our communities in our decision‑making.

What the policy does

  • The draft Significance and Engagement Policy sets out:
  • How we decide whether a decision is significant
  • When we will engage with the community
  • How engagement will be carried out
  • How we work with mana whenua and with Selwyn District Council as our shareholder

Engagement outcomes and next steps

Community engagement on the draft policy ran from 23 March to 16 April 2026. We heard from residents about whether the policy was clear and what changes they felt should be made.

You can view a copy of the draft policy that was presented for feedback.

We are now reviewing the feedback received and considering what updates are needed.

Before the policy is finalised, we will report back on what we heard and how feedback has informed the final version.
