How to connect

We have two types of supply connection in the district: on-demand (unrestricted/metered) and restricted supply.

If your property does not already have a water connection, you may be able to apply for one. Please note that only one water connection is allowed per property valuation number (title).

All applications are subject to Selwyn Water’s review to determine whether a new connection can be accommodated in your area.

  • Fill out the New Water Connection or Alteration Application form below
  • You'll be invoiced for any applicable development contributions, application and stand-over fees, which must be paid before approval, and before a contractor can begin the work
  • A Rural Water Charge may also apply – please contact us for details

If the network in your area has reached full capacity and no new connections are available. You may need to consider a private water supply.

Backflow prevention

Backflow prevention stops contaminated water from flowing back into the public drinking water supply. It's particularly important on properties where commercial, industrial or farming activities involve chemicals, pathogens or other hazards.

If your property poses a backflow risk, you're required to have the right device installed and maintained.

Engaging a contractor to install a new approved connection

You can choose Selwyn Water's network management contractor CORDE or any qualified private contractor to complete the connection from your house to the boundary.

If using a private contractor:

If you'd prefer CORDE to handle the full connection, contact them directly for a quote on 03 318 8320 or email water.admin@corde.nz
